Algeria Increases Intl. Bandwidth to 9.8 Tbit/s

Algeria’s international bandwidth capacity has significantly increased to 9.8 Tbit/s, up from 7.8 Tbit/s in 2022, as announced by Karim Bibi Triki, the Minister of Post and Telecommunications.

This boost is part of a broader strategy to modernize the country’s telecommunications infrastructure and meet rising Internet demand, ensuring ultra-high-speed access.

According to the Ministry, the expanded bandwidth will provide more flexibility and reinforce Algeria’s internet services. The enhancement aligns with the increasing demand for newer technologies such as 5G, the Internet of Things (IoT), and other emerging services, as well as bandwidth-heavy activities like video streaming and online gaming.

The “Digital 2023” report by Datareportal shows that Algeria’s median mobile Internet speed via cellular networks reached 13.40 Mbps, a 17% increase from the previous year, while fixed-line speeds rose to 11.01 Mbps.
