Paris-based climate tech startup, Kumulus Water, has raised USD 3.5 million (EUR 3.1 million) in seed funding to scale its atmospheric water generation (AWG) technology across regions grappling with water scarcity, including the Middle East and North Africa.
The round drew support from key investors: Bpifrance, PlusVC, Kalys Venture, Flat6Labs, and Spadel.
The investment reflects growing global interest in decentralized, off-grid water technologies that offer scalable alternatives to bottled and piped water systems.
Commenting on the development, Clément Yvorra, Global Business Development Manager at Spadel, said, “What convinced us is Kumulus’ ability to produce water locally, without packaging or transportation, offering a truly sustainable alternative.”
Founded with a mission to combat water insecurity, Kumulus Water builds atmospheric water generators that extract drinking water directly from the air. Its units are currently deployed across schools, hotels, and communities in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East, including Tunisia and rural off-grid regions.
How Kumulus Water Is Powering the Off-Grid Water Revolution
Kumulus’ proprietary machines work by cooling filtered air, causing moisture to condense into droplets. These droplets are collected, purified via multi-stage filtration, and stored in built-in tanks. Each machine produces 20–30 liters of clean drinking water daily, powered by standard electricity or solar energy, making them perfect for remote or infrastructure-poor areas.
The systems are fully autonomous and remotely monitored via web and mobile apps, enabling users to track water output, get maintenance alerts, and optimize performance based on local weather patterns.
This latest round of funding will fuel the development of Kumulus Boks, a higher-capacity line of water generators aimed at industrial and community-scale deployment. Kumulus also plans to strengthen its footprint in France, Spain, and Tunisia, while eyeing strategic expansion into Saudi Arabia, a country where sustainable water innovation is urgently needed.
For climate-conscious founders, tech builders, and MENA-based infrastructure innovators, Kumulus Water is a timely case study in how climate tech meets local needs with scalable, off-grid solutions. As the region faces intensifying water stress, solutions like Kumulus could soon be foundational to daily life.
