OpenAI’s $10B Raise Signals Rising MENA Role in Global AI Race

OpenAI eyes $10B raise with MGX participation, highlighting MENA’s growing role in global AI infrastructure and high-stakes tech investment.

The company is preparing to raise around $10 billion in fresh capital as competition in artificial intelligence intensifies and infrastructure demands continue to surge.

The funding round is expected to include investors such as MGX, Coatue Management, Thrive Capital, and Altimeter Capital. If completed, the deal could push OpenAI’s valuation to approximately $850 billion, placing it among the most valuable private companies globally.

The raise builds on OpenAI’s recent mega funding activity. Last month, the company secured roughly $110 billion from strategic backers including Amazon, NVIDIA, and SoftBank Group, highlighting the scale of capital now required to compete in AI.

This latest round reinforces a clear industry trend: AI is becoming increasingly capital-intensive. Companies are pouring billions into advanced chips, large-scale data centres, and specialised talent to accelerate development and dominate enterprise use cases.

At the same time, OpenAI appears to be refining its strategic focus. Reports suggest it may scale back consumer-facing initiatives like its Sora video-generation tool, shifting toward enterprise and developer products with clearer revenue pathways.

Why OpenAI Matters to MENA

MGX’s participation highlights MENA’s growing influence in global AI development—not just as a market, but as a capital provider shaping the industry.

As regional players invest in frontier AI companies, MENA is positioning itself within the core infrastructure layer of the AI economy, opening the door to deeper technology partnerships, talent development, and long-term strategic relevance in the global tech landscape.
