The UAE has unveiled a landmark initiative to enhance government efficiency using AI – artificial intelligence.
Announced by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, the Proactive Government Performance System is designed to transform how the federal government tracks, analyses, and improves its work.
The initiative is part of a broader push to cement the UAE’s leadership in digital governance and future-ready policymaking.
The platform will generate more than 50,000 proactive insights per year and is expected to save over 250,000 work hours annually. According to the Dubai Media Office, it could result in a 60% overall improvement in government performance, making it one of the most ambitious public sector transformation efforts globally.
From Data to Decisions: How the System Works
The system uses sophisticated AI algorithms to track the implementation of government strategies, monitor department performance in real time, and support high-level decision-making with executive-ready dashboards.
By processing over 150 million data points every month, it helps anticipate risks, identify opportunities, and sharpen national planning efforts.
In a post on X, Sheikh Mohammed emphasised that “continuous improvement is an essential part of our work ethic,” and that the system represents a major step forward in the government’s goal to embed excellence into its daily operations.
The launch was attended by senior government figures, including Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed, Minister of Cabinet Affairs Mohammed Al Gergawi, and Minister of Al Omar Al Olama.
Part of a Broader AI Vision
This rollout aligns with the UAE’s ongoing investment in artificial intelligence as a national strategic priority.
In recent years, the country has emerged as a global trailblazer, appointing the world’s first Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence in 2017 and establishing the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence in 2019.
Looking ahead, the UAE plans to become the world’s first fully AI-powered government by 2027, a goal outlined in Abu Dhabi’s Digital Strategy 2025–2027.
In a related move, the UAE Cabinet announced that the National Artificial Intelligence System would join its ranks as an advisory member starting January 2026.
With this latest development, the UAE is sending a clear signal: digital excellence, data-driven governance, and proactive leadership will define the next chapter of public service in the region.
