AI adoption is transforming classrooms in the UAE, where three-quarters of teachers now use artificial intelligence in their work, the highest rate globally and a powerful sign of how technology is reshaping education across the Gulf.
Around 75% of teachers in the UAE are actively integrating AI tools into their daily teaching, compared to the global average of one in three, according to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development’s (OECD) latest Teaching and Learning International Survey (TALIS). The UAE’s rate matches only Singapore’s, placing both nations at the forefront of global education innovation.

Teachers most frequently use AI to create lesson plans, generate classroom activities, and summarize complex topics, highlighting how AI adoption is enhancing efficiency and creativity in lesson delivery. However, fewer educators rely on AI for student performance analysis or participation tracking.
The study found that AI adoption in education also correlates with professional readiness. Teachers in countries with the highest AI use such as the UAE and Singapore are also more likely to have received formal AI training. In contrast, participation in AI training remains lowest in France, where fewer than one in five teachers use AI in class.
Across the Gulf, governments are investing heavily in AI-driven education reforms. The UAE, for example, has introduced a national AI curriculum and trained more than 1,000 teachers to strengthen classroom integration. The initiative aligns with the country’s long-term strategy to build digital-first learning ecosystems that prepare students for the future workforce.
“Skilled teachers are the foundation for high-performing education systems,” said Mathias Cormann, OECD Secretary-General, in the report’s foreword. “Understanding and effectively using AI is now essential to sustaining that performance.”
The survey covered 280,000 teachers and school leaders across 17,000 lower secondary schools in 55 education systems, including those in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Bahrain. The findings underscore how AI adoption is rapidly shifting teaching paradigms from manual content creation to intelligent, data-driven learning experiences.
Why AI Adoption Matters to MENA
The findings reaffirm the UAE’s role as a regional trailblazer in education innovation, setting a benchmark for other MENA nations pursuing AI transformation.
By empowering teachers with AI tools and training, the UAE is bridging the gap between technology and pedagogy, aligning perfectly with national goals under the UAE Artificial Intelligence Strategy 2031.
The ripple effect could be profound, nurturing a generation of digitally fluent educators and learners ready to lead in the global knowledge economy.
