UAE-based biotech startup BioSapien has secured an extended round of pre-Series A funding, bringing its total raised to over USD 8 million, with Globivest joining as a new investor.
This extension follows earlier investments led by Global Ventures, Golden Gate Ventures, and Dara Holdings.
The additional capital is aimed at accelerating the development of BioSapien’s MediChip™, a next-generation platform for localized cancer treatment that is attracting attention across the global healthtech and oncology sectors.
A Transformative Leap in Cancer Care
At the heart of BioSapien MediChip UAE innovation is a biodegradable, 3D-printed drug delivery system designed to administer chemotherapeutics directly at the tumor site.
The platform enables sustained, targeted release, aiming to reduce systemic toxicity and enhance treatment precision, particularly critical in aggressive or recurring cancers.
“BioSapien’s MediChip™ platform is a breakthrough in localized cancer treatment, scalable, precise, and deeply aligned with our One Health mission,” said Dr. Laura-Joy Boulos, Partner at Globivest, a women-led, science-driven impact VC based in the MENA region.

UAE’s Rising Biotech Hub
Headquartered between the United Arab Emirates and the United States, BioSapien exemplifies the UAE’s growing leadership in biotech innovation.
The company’s dual presence reflects the country’s Vision 2030 commitment to advancing healthcare and biomedical R&D through global partnerships and cutting-edge technology.
Founded as a clinical-stage biotechnology company, BioSapien is redefining drug delivery with a focus on cancer therapeutics.
Its MediChip™ has already shown potential to revolutionize how chemotherapies are administered by enabling localized treatment, a significant step forward in personalizing and improving cancer care outcomes.
Strategic Backing for Global Expansion
The funding journey began in December 2024, when Global Ventures and Dara Holdings co-led a $5.5 million raise. A January 2025 extension brought the total to $7 million, now surpassed by Globivest’s entry as BioSapien eyes clinical trials, regulatory approval, and market scaling.
As biotech in the UAE continues to gain traction, BioSapien is positioning its MediChip™ to be a flagship innovation not only for the region but also for global oncology solutions.
