Cohere Launches Optimized Arabic AI Model

Cohere has launched the Command R7B Arabic, a lightweight multilingual AI model optimized specifically for Arabic language capabilities to support enterprises in the Middle East and North Africa.

The new model can be served on low-end GPUs, MacBooks, or even CPUs while offering a 128k context length. Its compact size enables businesses to more easily scale Arabic language AI applications to production environments.

According to the company, Command R7B Arabic outperforms other leading models in its class across key enterprise tasks that rely on advanced Arabic language and cultural understanding. The model maintains strong performance in the core languages Command R7B already supports while enhancing Arabic capabilities.

“We have always prioritized ensuring our AI technology serves as many people, organizations, and markets as possible. This open-weights release creates new possibilities for Arabic-speaking developers and businesses,” said Cohere in its announcement.

The model is designed for advanced business applications including retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) and building agents that require complex reasoning and accessing internal information sources.

Command R7B Arabic is available immediately on the Cohere platform as well as on HuggingFace and Ollama. The company is releasing the model weights to provide access to the research community and offers on-premises deployment options for enterprise customers.

Founded by Google Brain alumni and a co-author of the Transformer research paper, Cohere is a leading AI platform for enterprises, offering cloud-agnostic deployment via API, virtual private cloud, or on-site.

The company that is headquartered in Toronto and San Francisco is backed by leading investors including DTCP, Index Ventures, NVIDIA, Oracle, Salesforce Ventures, and Tiger Global, with a $5.5 billion valuation in its 2024 funding round.
