The Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) has announced the successful onboarding of KaopuCloud and Mibura to the Qatar Internet Exchange Point (QIXP), a move that reinforces Qatar’s ambition to become a leading regional hub for internet traffic and digital innovation.
This strategic expansion of QIXP, Qatar’s national, carrier-neutral internet exchange platform, aims to localize digital content and cloud workloads, reduce network latency, and lower data transit costs, all while strengthening the country’s digital sovereignty.
“The addition of KaopuCloud and Mibura aligns with CRA’s strategic objective to localize digital content within Qatar,” said Ali Al Suwaidi, Director of Technical Affairs at CRA and Chair of the QIXP Steering Committee.
“Through open peering and route server deployment, QIXP enables seamless interconnection across participants, driving performance, cost-efficiency, and innovation.”
QIXP’s Growing Role in Regional Connectivity
Launched in 2020, QIXP enables direct traffic exchange between internet service providers, government bodies, content networks, and academic institutions.
It supports local data routing, which enhances network resilience and security, key pillars of the country’s digital transformation strategy under Qatar National Vision 2030.
As of May 2025, 19 participants are actively connected to QIXP, a growing ecosystem that includes global cloud providers and regional telecom operators.

Qatar also recently hosted the first GCC working group on internet traffic exchange, further underlining its leadership in regional data infrastructure.
Who Are the New Participants?
- KaopuCloud, a global edge-cloud leader, operates low-latency edge nodes in 50+ cities and 150+ data centers, supporting real-time digital services and global gaming infrastructure.
- Mibura, a cloud and hosting provider with a footprint in over 200 cities, delivers enterprise-grade infrastructure in collaboration with major technology players.
Their inclusion is expected to boost the performance of mission-critical services like video streaming, SaaS applications, and cloud computing within Qatar by keeping traffic local and reducing reliance on international transit routes.
