

The United Kingdom and Qatar are forging deeper collaborations in advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence, quantum sciences, and bioengineering—fields poised to reshape economies and societies globally.
UK Secretary of State for Science, Innovation, and Technology, H.E. Peter Kyle, emphasized the natural synergy between the two nations in these areas during an interview with Qatar News Agency (QNA).
Highlighting the purpose of his visit, Kyle noted that transformative technologies such as AI, quantum computing, and engineering biology are revolutionizing industries worldwide. He underscored that both the UK and Qatar share a strong commitment to innovation and scientific advancement.
“In December, we launched a pioneering £1 billion climate technology partnership,” Kyle said, adding that Qatar’s ambition, openness to innovation, and expanding expertise in science and technology make it a standout partner.
Trade relations between the two countries also reflect this growing partnership. In 2023, bilateral trade reached £6.6 billion, while Qatari investments in the UK economy have amounted to approximately £40 billion, fueling innovation and generating long-term benefits for both sides.

The Minister stressed that his visit aims to strengthen these partnerships further, leveraging both countries’ scientific and technological expertise to drive breakthrough innovations with global impact.
Discussing the future of scientific research and Qatar’s commitment to this sector, Kyle pointed out that the world is entering a new era of technological transformation, with AI set to revolutionize industries from healthcare to energy.
“The UK is moving rapidly to capitalize on these advancements,” he stated, citing initiatives such as AI Growth Zones and strategic collaborations with top AI firms like Anthropic. He emphasized that Britain is an attractive destination for the kind of forward-thinking investment that Qatar is known for.
Both nations, he concluded, share ambitious goals for AI and emerging technologies. By working together, they can address global challenges while driving economic growth.
