Oman’s telecom authority has granted Elon Musk’s Starlink satellite internet service the permission to start retail and commercial operations.
The service will cover all regions of Oman, including remote and challenging terrains, offering speeds of up to 100 Mbps, state-run Oman News Agency reported, citing a statement from the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA).
Starlink Muscat was given a class 1 licence, which allows it to provide fixed public telecommunications services in the sultanate.

The satellite is a low-orbit network offering high-speed broadband services, particularly in areas with limited internet connectivity.
Starlink entry is likely to enhance competition among licensed telecom providers and improve service quality and speed, the report said. It will also support economic sectors such as oil and gas, mining, tourism and agriculture.
In October 2024, Qatar Airways operated its first flight with internet provided by the satellite.
