Vodafone Qatar Teams Up with Nokia to Power the Country’s 5G Future

Vodafone Qatar has joined forces with Nokia in a strategic partnership aimed at transforming its network capabilities and accelerating the deployment of cutting-edge 5G technologies across the country. This initiative is part of Vodafone Qatar’s broader vision to drive digital transformation at scale, according to Chief Technology Officer Ramy Boctor.

“Vodafone Qatar and Nokia have developed a comprehensive plan to upgrade our national network infrastructure,” Boctor shared in an exclusive interview with Gulf Times. “The goal is to strengthen our network and pave the way for advanced 5G services that will benefit both businesses and everyday consumers in Qatar.”

The collaboration underscores Vodafone Qatar’s commitment to delivering next-generation telecom services that are faster, more reliable, and more secure. With the backing of Nokia’s technology expertise, the company is set to deliver 5G connectivity that is not only high performing but also scalable and adaptable to the country’s future digital needs.

The announcement of the Vodafone-Nokia agreement marks a critical step toward overhauling Vodafone’s existing network systems. The transformation will equip the company to provide highly responsive and secure 5G services that meet the demands of consumers and enterprises alike, while also laying the groundwork for future technological advancements.

In the interview, Boctor noted the rapidly evolving nature of the digital and telecommunications landscape. He pointed out that Vodafone Qatar is preparing for what he described as “immense growth in the coming years,” aligning with forecasts that project the country’s ICT sector to expand at an annual rate of around 8.5% through 2030.

“Given the pace of change in our industry, adaptability is key,” Boctor said. “A central objective of this nationwide infrastructure upgrade is to ensure that our 5G services can quickly evolve to meet emerging business and consumer needs, while staying ready for upcoming innovations.”

He added that the company’s focus is not only on present-day performance, but also on building systems that can handle future demands.

“Our vision is to offer the best possible service experience today, while keeping the flexibility to incorporate tomorrow’s breakthroughs in 5G technology.”

Another core priority in Vodafone Qatar’s network overhaul is the enhancement of its broadband capabilities. With more customers and businesses relying on high-speed internet, the upgraded infrastructure will help the company meet rising expectations.

“As demand for high-speed, dependable internet continues to grow, our upgraded systems will enable us to deliver broadband services with increased speed, higher capacity, and broader coverage than ever before,” Boctor explained.

Upgrade

Beyond improving service speeds and reliability, Vodafone Qatar is also introducing network automation and orchestration capabilities into its systems. These upgrades will incorporate artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to streamline operations, accelerate time-to-market, and open new opportunities for innovation.

“We’re introducing AI-driven automation that will significantly improve operational efficiency and enable quicker rollout of services,” Boctor said. “This also unlocks new possibilities that go beyond conventional telecom services.”

According to Boctor, these developments will allow Vodafone Qatar to play a more central role in enabling broader digital transformation initiatives across the country. From powering smart cities and IoT systems to enabling enterprise-level digital solutions, the network is being positioned as a key enabler of Qatar’s digital future.

Nokia’s President of Cloud and Network Services, Raghav Sahgal, also weighed in on the impact of the partnership. He highlighted how Nokia’s suite of digital operations tools will support Vodafone Qatar’s journey toward building autonomous networks, and how AI-enhanced assurance and 5G slicing will elevate service quality.

Sahgal emphasized the importance of 5G’s ability to offer precise and consistent performance, particularly for businesses that need guaranteed bandwidth levels.

“With 5G slicing, you can assign a specific portion of the network to an enterprise or individual, ensuring that performance stays consistent and free from fluctuation,” Sahgal explained.

He also broke down how AI-powered assurance works, noting that its purpose is to monitor network health in real time and respond quickly to disruptions.

“If a fault occurs in the network, AI helps reroute traffic or take corrective action so that service continuity is maintained,” he said.

Sahgal added that today’s customers expect services tailored to their needs, not just generic, predefined offerings.

“Digital operations make it possible to design and deliver services that are truly customized, built around what each customer needs, not just what’s already available,” he said, referring to the role of 5G slicing automation.
