The two parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), formalised by Najeeb Al Ali from the Expo City Dubai Authority and Hamad Zayed from Emirates NBD’s Business Banking division.

The move aligns with Expo City Dubai’s ambition to position itself as a competitive, innovation-driven hub that attracts both regional and international companies. Under the collaboration, Emirates NBD will offer customised financial services for Expo City licence holders, supported by a streamlined digital setup designed to reduce onboarding friction.

Why Expo City Dubai and Emirates NBD Matter to Startups

For many founders, banking is one of the most frustrating early steps, often far more tedious than building the actual product. By simplifying account opening and delivering a cleaner, faster workflow, this partnership directly addresses a long-standing pain point. Expo City Dubai also noted that it is in discussions with additional financial institutions to broaden these simplified options.

The initiative fits neatly into Expo City Dubai’s wider role as the legacy district of Expo 2020. Positioned strategically between Al Maktoum International Airport, the Dubai Exhibition Centre, and Jebel Ali Port, the area continues to develop into a people-centric, sustainability-focused community. It is also one of the planned hubs under the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan and contributes to the D33 economic agenda.

And despite Dubai’s reputation for efficiency, opening a basic business bank account can still feel like a maze. If Expo City Dubai and Emirates NBD manage to cut through even a portion of that administrative clutter, startups operating in the city will have one less barrier—and a clearer runway to focus on building, scaling, and growing sustainably.
