Innovation Week 2024 launched on Sunday at the Rixos Gulf Hotel, focusing on “Digital Creativity and Its Applications in the Fields of Electricity and Water.” Organized by the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) through its Creativity, Innovation, and Scientific Research Incubator, the event coincides with World Creativity and Innovation Day on April 21.
The initiative aims to enhance a culture of creativity and innovation among Kahramaa employees, encouraging them to develop new ideas that enhance efficiency across all departments. Spanning four days, the program includes in-person and remote attendance options for Kahramaa staff on the first day, featuring speakers from Kahramaa, key partners like the Qatar Research, Development, and Innovation Council (QRDI), Microsoft Qatar, and Google Qatar, as well as industry supporters such as Siemens, Schneider, EY, and Deloitte. Topics will include Qatar’s Innovation Strategy, the role of AI in the electricity and water sectors, and modern technologies.
The second and third days will host workshops for selected Kahramaa employees, led by Microsoft and Google, focusing on digital innovation tied to Kahramaa’s operational processes. The final day will feature a Hackathon Competition, where 100 talented employees will team up to propose actionable ideas for various operational challenges. A panel of judges will award the top three proposals, marking Kahramaa’s first Hackathon.
Eng. Rashid Al Rahimi, head of the Creativity, Innovation, and Scientific Research Incubator, stated, “Over the next four days, we will explore new opportunities and learn from our past experiences. We aim to enhance our services while ensuring environmental sustainability.” He emphasized that innovation is crucial for navigating today’s challenges and is central to Kahramaa’s goals.
This initiative supports Qatar’s Third National Development Strategy (2024-2030), positioning the country as a leader in government services and digital governance. The Creativity, Innovation, and Scientific Research Incubator, established in 2017 and restructured in 2021, now combines innovation and research efforts. It has successfully executed over 42 research projects, collaborated with universities, and adopted seven new creative ideas into impactful projects with QRDI.
The incubator is committed to a five-year strategy focused on driving research, development, and innovation, encouraging employees and partners to achieve strategic goals within Kahramaa.
