The 19th Katara Tech Forum, organized by the Cultural Village Foundation (Katara), focused on “The Role of Artificial Intelligence in Driving Digital Transformation of Smart Cities.” The forum addressed the vital role of information technology in enhancing efficiency, fostering innovation, and tackling related challenges.

Maryam Mohammed Majarrah, owner of Southtech Technology Solutions and Southtech Security Systems, highlighted the importance of understanding artificial intelligence (AI) and its benefits in her presentation. She emphasized AI’s critical role in smart city digital transformation strategies.

Majarrah explained that AI involves creating computer systems that mimic human intelligence, encompassing learning, reasoning, and self-correction. She discussed specific applications of AI in problem-solving and decision-making.

She stressed the importance of advanced analytics in improving decision-making, enhancing customer service, increasing productivity, reducing costs, mitigating risks, and fostering innovation through greater efficiency.

Digital transformation, she noted, integrates digital technologies across all organizational operations, fundamentally changing how work is performed and enhancing business performance. This transformation is both strategic and cultural, leveraging technology to drive efficiency and innovation.

Majarrah pointed out that AI and digital transformation are powerful forces presenting both opportunities and challenges. Their implementation requires a comprehensive approach that considers economic, social, ethical, and environmental factors.

She concluded by showcasing examples of Southtech’s smart applications, such as drones and robots for security and safety, and expressed her commitment to promoting a “smart nation” that connects rural areas with urban centers for mutual benefit.

Thamer Al-Qadi, Director of Information Technology at Katara and President of the Katara Tech Forum stated that the forum aims to support startups and medium-sized enterprises while encouraging Qatari talent.
