Orange Egypt invests €50m to Support Startups

Orange Egypt plans to allocate 50 million euros to support start-ups in the field of entrepreneurship in Africa, in order to encourage young people to innovate, during the coming year.

This was disclosed by Eng. Yasser Shaker, CEO and Managing Director of Orange Egypt, who confirmed that it will invest in about 40 companies, of which Egypt has the largest share.

Shaker believes that Egypt is one of the three strongest countries in Africa in the field of entrepreneurship and that the company seeks to strengthen its position as a major center for launching into the rest of the continent.

He also pointed out that Orange Egypt is more than a telecom operator, as it owns the “Orange Business” sector, which includes more than 3,000 engineers, in addition to “Orange Labs”, which includes about 100 engineers specializing in programming outside Egypt.

Shaker also said that the company will also showcase initiatives to support youth through the Orange Digital Development Center in Cairo, which aims to train youth in digital skills and qualify them for the labor market.

The center has trained about a thousand people annually, and another center was recently opened in Aswan Governorate to support youth in that region.
