Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) has unveiled HUMAIN, a new company set to anchor the Kingdom’s ambitions in artificial intelligence by building and operating across the entire AI value chain, from infrastructure and data centers to cloud services and large language models.
Fully owned by PIF and chaired by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in his capacity as head of the fund, HUMAIN will lead national efforts in AI innovation with a particular focus on developing Arabic multimodal LLMs, advancing local IP creation, and enabling cloud-based AI tools for businesses and government alike.
The new company will also target key sectors such as energy, healthcare, manufacturing, and financial services, offering AI-powered solutions for domestic and international markets.
How HUMAIN is Supporting Vision 2030 Through AI Leadership
HUMAIN’s launch comes amid Saudi Arabia’s aggressive pivot into AI and advanced technology, as part of its broader Vision 2030 agenda to diversify the economy beyond oil and position the Kingdom as a regional tech hub.
It follows recent reports that PIF is setting up a $40 billion AI fund, the world’s largest AI-focused investment pool, and exploring $100 billion in AI and semiconductor initiatives, including partnerships with leading global tech firms and hardware ventures such as Alat.
While it’s not yet clear how HUMAIN connects directly to these earlier-announced initiatives, it will operate alongside other PIF-backed AI firms such as the Saudi Company for Artificial Intelligence (SCAI), launched in 2021 to apply AI across urban development, healthcare, and mobility.
HUMAIN’s remit also includes:
- Building AI data infrastructure across the Kingdom
- Attracting global AI talent and researchers
- Facilitating cross-border AI collaboration
- Accelerating Arabic-first AI capabilities to serve the wider MENA region
By consolidating national efforts and bringing global best practices to local development, HUMAIN is expected to play a catalytic role in transforming Saudi Arabia into a global AI powerhouse.
