Qatar Ministry of Communications Launches Digital Agenda 2030

Digital Agenda 2030 was officially launched today by Qatar’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) under the patronage of His Excellency, the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani.

The event was attended by HE Minister of Communications and Information Technology Mohammed bin Ali Al Mannai, along with other ministers, dignitaries, and senior officials from the local and global technology sector.

In his speech at the inauguration ceremony, Al Mannai highlighted that the Digital Agenda embodies Qatar’s commitment to a thriving digital future and ambitious ICT goals. 

He added that the agenda outlines the execution of Qatar’s 3rd National Development Strategy, aiming to transform Qatar into a smart, technologically advanced nation.

His words, “Our Digital Agenda 2030 provides a clear roadmap, outlining a comprehensive framework, trajectory, and specific goals. These goals include providing approximately 26,000 job opportunities by 2030, raising the competencies of professional staff in the ICT sector by 10% through developing advanced skills, and creating positive economic impacts that we expect to reach nearly QR 40 billion in 2030.”

The Digital Agenda 2030 is structured around six strategic pillars: Digital Infrastructure, Digital Government, Digital Technologies, Digital Innovation, Digital Economy, and Digital Society. These pillars provide a framework for advancing Qatar’s digital future and enhancing its global digital competitiveness.

His Excellency concluded his speech by emphasizing that the agenda aims to empower individuals and societies by improving digital capabilities across all sectors of the Qatari economy and integrating them into a knowledge-based, digital economy.

The successful implementation of these six pillars is expected to boost the effectiveness of the digital economy and society, accelerate economic transformation, and enhance competitive efficiency. By adopting innovative digital strategies emphasizing inclusivity and sustainable growth, the 2030 Digital Agenda represents a bold vision for a prosperous future through comprehensive digital transformation.

The Digital Agenda 2030 with its 32 strategic programs, is set to significantly impact all sectors of Qatar’s economy. The implementation of these programs is projected to achieve a compound annual growth rate of 7.8% in GDP and substantially increase the ICT sector’s contribution to the non-oil GDP, potentially reaching 3.5%. 

Central to this agenda is developing innovative, forward-thinking strategies that translate into actionable initiatives. Collaborative efforts will be crucial to meeting the ambitious goals outlined in the plan, positioning Qatar as a leading hub in digital technology, and delivering considerable economic and social benefits.

By 2030, Qatar aims to undergo a comprehensive digital transformation, emerging as a key player in smart cities, e-governance, cybersecurity, and advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence and the metaverse. This transformation is expected to yield significant economic advantages and reinforce Qatar’s global leadership in digital technology.
