SEKEM to Invest $10M in MENA Food, Agriculture, Expansion

Egypt’s SEKEM Holding is doubling down on its growth strategy with a planned EGP 450–500 million (USD 10 million) investment over the next three years, focusing on food manufacturing and agricultural expansion, according to CEO Helmy Aboueleish.

A major move in this plan includes Isis Organic, SEKEM’s flagship subsidiary, which is set to launch a new natural cheese factory with an initial EGP 50 million investment.

Two additional production lines are also in the pipeline: one for boosting mineral water output, and another at the group’s herbs facility, where the company holds a 90%+ stake.

But the ambition doesn’t stop at Egypt’s borders.

SEKEM Sets Sights on MENA and Global Expansion

SEKEM is preparing to launch two new companies in Saudi Arabia and Algeria, backed by EGP 30M–35M each in partnership with Diwan Al-Khaleej (Saudi Arabia) and BT Food (Algeria). Both ventures are expected to go live within months.

Further afield, it is eyeing 7–8 new export markets, including Slovakia, China, Indonesia, and Argentina, which could significantly grow its international footprint. Exports already account for 50% of SEKEM’s projected EGP 1.5 billion business volume for 2024.

On the agricultural front, the plan is to invest EGP 200M–300M to expand its farms, contingent on stable interest rates, while aiming to onboard up to 40,000 contracted farmers (up from 16,000).

The group also targets issuing 300,000 carbon certificates annually, reinforcing its green credentials.

With a portfolio that spans Isis Organic, SEKEM Health, Atos Pharma, Nature Tex, and Lotus, SEKEM is placing smart bets on sustainability, regional integration, and agri-food value chains.

This firm is going regional with bold moves in food production, farming, and carbon markets, a clear signal that Egypt’s agri-industrial players are scaling fast and thinking global.
