Jordan has officially introduced satellite-powered internet services in partnership with Starlink, marking a pivotal step in the country’s journey toward full digital transformation. The announcement was made during a press conference hosted by the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC), signaling a major effort to expand high-speed internet access to areas often left behind.
TRC Chairman, Bassam Sarhan, described the launch as a “milestone moment” for the telecom sector. Powered by Starlink’s low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite network, the service aims to bridge connectivity gaps in remote and hard-to-reach regions where traditional infrastructure is limited or impractical.
“The deployment of satellite internet is more than just a technological upgrade,” Sarhan stated. “It’s a strategic move to boost digital equity, enhance service quality, and unlock economic potential across Jordan.”
According to Sarhan, the licensing process was grounded in thorough technical assessments to ensure that the service meets both local and global regulatory standards. The TRC also worked closely with Starlink to customize the offering for the Jordanian market, ensuring it meets the country’s unique needs.
Sarhan emphasized that despite the new tech, Starlink’s services will be held to the same oversight and consumer protection standards as conventional fiber internet providers.
“This initiative allows us to bring stable, fast internet to every part of Jordan—urban or rural,” he added.
The project aligns with Jordan’s broader Economic Modernisation Vision, which places digital transformation at the heart of future economic growth and competitiveness.
Starlink’s Vice President of Business Operations, Lauren Dreyer, echoed this sentiment. She noted the far-reaching benefits of the service, particularly in vital sectors such as education, healthcare, and commerce.
“This isn’t just about internet access,” Dreyer said. “It’s about opening doors for development in every corner of the country.”
Dreyer also confirmed that pricing details for both residential and enterprise plans will be made available on Starlink’s official website to ensure transparency and affordability.
By embracing space-based internet solutions, Jordan joins a growing list of nations committed to accelerating digital inclusion and laying the groundwork for a smarter, more connected future.
