The Dubai Health Authority (DHA) has announced the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into its NABIDH system, a major leap in securing patient data across the emirate’s healthcare network. Developed in partnership with Imprivata, this move reflects Dubai’s broader ambitions to lead globally in digital healthcare innovation.
NABIDH, short for Network and Analysis Backbone for Integrated Dubai Health, is the city’s unified electronic medical record system. With this new AI layer, the platform will now offer smarter protection against unauthorised access, real-time breach detection, and strengthened privacy for patients—safeguarding over 9.53 million medical records already digitised across 1,500+ facilities.
Speaking at the announcement event, Awadh Seghayer Al Ketbi, Director-General of DHA, said:
“Integrating AI into the NABIDH system demonstrates DHA’s dedication to establishing a safer, more efficient, and sustainable digital healthcare environment that meets patients’ evolving needs.”
NABIDH-Leading Digital Transformation in MENA Healthcare
The announcement was made during a high-profile DHA event, where healthcare and tech leaders gathered to discuss the future of digital medicine in Dubai.
The integration of AI into NABIDH supports Dubai’s vision of becoming the smartest city in the world, where intelligent systems empower better, safer care.
According to Al Ketbi, 82% of Dubai’s medical workforce is now engaged with NABIDH, an indicator of how deeply the system is embedded in the healthcare ecosystem. AI is now being used to proactively monitor data activity, flag unusual behaviour, and prevent potential threats before they escalate.
This collaboration with Imprivata not only strengthens DHA’s existing data infrastructure but also demonstrates how public-private partnerships can accelerate responsible and secure digital health transformation.
“We are building a comprehensive healthcare system aligned with the highest global standards in patient data protection,” Al Ketbi added, reinforcing DHA’s long-term commitment to trust, innovation, and operational excellence.
As other MENA countries begin ramping up AI investments in health, Dubai’s model could serve as a regional blueprint, merging world-class cybersecurity practices with accessible, AI-powered healthcare for all.
