Egypt’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) has launched the inaugural edition of Digitopia, a nationwide technology competition designed to showcase innovation across the ICT sector. The event, which kicked off in August 2025, carries a total prize pool of EGP 10 million, including a grand prize of up to EGP 1 million.
Digitopia offers more than financial rewards. Participants gain access to training opportunities with global and local technology leaders, as well as specialized organizations in skills development.
The initiative is organized under the supervision of the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA), the National Telecommunications Institute (NTI), the Information Technology Institute (ITI), and the Egypt University of Informatics (EUI).
International and local partners backing the competition include UNDP, Huawei Egypt, Cisco Egypt, Telecom Egypt, Vodafone Egypt, Orange Egypt, and e& Egypt, alongside local collaborators such as ICT Misr, Next Era Education, WE Innovate, Eyouth, and YAT Learning Centers.
Digitopia to Record Massive Participation Nationwide
The response has been overwhelming, with over 25,000 applicants forming more than 6,500 teams from across Egypt’s governorates. Registration, orientation, and idea submission closed on August 31, 2025, and participants are now progressing through the competition stages.
Digitopia spans three main tracks:
- Software and AI solutions
- Gaming and digital arts
- Cybersecurity
The contest is open to participants aged 10 to 35 years, targeting school students, university students, graduates, entrepreneurs, and startup founders.
A panel of more than 90 experts in innovation and digital technologies will evaluate projects and prototypes based on creativity, technical depth, and their potential to tackle Egypt’s social and economic challenges.
By creating a platform for young innovators, Digitopia is positioning itself as a launchpad for Egypt’s next generation of tech leaders. Beyond prizes, the competition aims to accelerate the country’s digital economy and build a pipeline of talent aligned with Egypt’s digital transformation strategy.
