The Egyptian Ministry of Communications and Information Technology has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Microsoft Egypt to conduct an AI training for 100,000 individuals over the coming years.
The programme will focus on young people and public sector employees, in line with the second phase of the National AI Strategy (2025–2030).
The training will combine hands-on learning, curated education pathways, and technical consultations, helping government bodies adopt AI tools that improve efficiency and service delivery.
It also emphasizes responsible AI practices, aligning with Egypt’s Responsible AI Charter and global best standards.
“This initiative is one of the most far-reaching AI upskilling efforts in Egypt to date,” said officials familiar with the rollout.
AI Training Drive to Support Egypt’s BPO Growth and Digital Goals
The collaboration supports Egypt’s long-term ambition to become a regional AI and outsourcing hub, with Statista projecting BPO market revenue to hit $523.2 million by the end of 2025, and nearly $800 million by 2029.
By building AI talent at scale, Egypt is positioning itself to compete globally in AI-driven services while accelerating its own public sector digital transformation.
Key programme highlights:
- 100,000 individuals to be trained in AI, targeting youth and government professionals
- Supports AI Strategy 2025–2030, with a focus on data governance, infrastructure, and talent
- Delivers mentorship, learning paths, and AI use-case development for the public sector
- Promotes ethical, inclusive AI aligned with national and international standards
- Explores policy frameworks to ensure sustainable innovation and governance
- May expand to other African markets as Egypt strengthens regional leadership in digital skills
This initiative comes as Microsoft scales up its AI Skills for Africa programme, aiming to train 1 million people each in South Africa, Kenya, and Nigeria.
It also places Egypt alongside regional peers racing to build AI-ready workforces, as global players like Google, Oracle, and IBM roll out similar AI training programmes across the continent.
