
In a world-first initiative, the UAE Council for Fatwa will use AI-driven drones to observe the crescent moon, marking the start of Ramadan. This innovative approach highlights the UAE’s commitment to integrating cutting-edge technology into traditional practices.
According to the Council, AI-powered drones will enhance the direct visual observation method, which remains central to confirming the Ramadan crescent in accordance with Islamic teachings. The drones will work alongside naked-eye sightings and advanced astronomical observatories, ensuring greater precision in determining the holy month’s beginning.
This initiative is being implemented in collaboration with national institutions, specialized research centers, and observatories equipped with state-of-the-art technology. By leveraging AI for moon sighting, the UAE continues to solidify its position as a leader in technological advancements within religious and scientific fields.
