Algeria’s digital transformation strategy

Initially launched in 2019 under the leadership of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the digitalization project aims to support sustainable local development.

The strategy is outlined as a five-year plan, running from 2024 until 2029 and centered on implementing a digitalization law and better cybersecurity measures.

The upcoming digitalization law will regulate the digital sector by removing administrative barriers and addressing technological shortcomings. The government aims to improve cybersecurity through collaboration with the Ministry of National Defense.

Despite initial challenges faced, such as limited resources, bureaucratic resistance, and the complexity of the digital sector, significant progress has been made in the digital sector in the past two years.

Progress in this regard is evident in the latest report from the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) released in December 2022. Algeria rose 14 places and is now ranked 88th out of 169 nations in the ICT Development Index.
