The renewal agreement was signed by Maitham Abdulla, CEO of Batelco, and Ahmed Ali Al-Ebrahim, CEO of GCCIA, marking another milestone in the long-standing collaboration between the two entities.

At the heart of the partnership is Batelco’s Bahrain Gulf Network (BGN), which operates over GCCIA’s terrestrial fibre-optic infrastructure. The BGN will continue to serve as a protected terrestrial network, delivering secure, scalable, and resilient connectivity solutions across the region.

Positioned as a key digital gateway, the BGN connects GCC countries while interfacing with regional submarine cable systems, extending connectivity to broader international markets. Spanning more than 1,400 kilometres, the network plays a critical role in strengthening regional integration and safeguarding the GCC’s digital corridors.

“We are delighted to renew our longstanding partnership with GCCIA, a trusted digital infrastructure partner that plays a vital role in strengthening regional connectivity,” said Maitham Abdulla, CEO of Batelco. “This renewal underscores our shared focus on delivering world-class infrastructure, unparalleled reliability, and future-ready network solutions. At Batelco, we remain dedicated to driving digital innovation with robust, secure, and scalable solutions that empower the region’s digital economy and support its growth ambitions.”

Ahmed Ali Al-Ebrahim, CEO of GCCIA, added: “Our continued partnership with Batelco by Beyon reflects our shared dedication to enhancing connectivity and building a more resilient digital ecosystem across the Gulf. It highlights the importance of regional collaboration in advancing digital transformation initiatives and confirms our roles as key enablers of reliable and secure connectivity solutions.”

The renewed agreement comes as demand for secure, high-capacity data routes continues to grow across the GCC, driven by cloud adoption, AI workloads, the expansion of financial services, and cross-border digital trade.

Why Batelco and GCCIA Partnership Matter to MENA

This renewal is about far more than a routine telecom agreement. As Gulf economies accelerate cloud adoption, AI deployment, fintech expansion, and cross-border digital trade, terrestrial fibre resilience is becoming strategically critical.

Batelco’s Bahrain Gulf Network (BGN), operating across GCCIA’s infrastructure, serves as a protected terrestrial alternative and complement to submarine cables. In a region where subsea cable disruptions can have an outsized economic impact, diversified and resilient land-based routes enhance digital sovereignty and business continuity.

For the GCC, stronger regional backbone connectivity supports national digital strategies, hyperscaler expansion, data center growth, and emerging AI workloads. It also reinforces the Gulf’s positioning as a secure interconnection corridor between Asia, Europe, and Africa.
