NBK & Weyay NEXUS 2025 Power Move Fuels Kuwait’s Digital Shift

NBK  & Weyay NEXUS 2025 marks a powerful step in Kuwait’s digital shift, showcasing fintech innovation, SME support, and the rise of next-gen banking.

NBK & Weyay, its digital arm, took centre stage this week as official sponsors of NEXUS 2025—Kuwait’s flagship three-day innovation and technology conference held from 4 to 6 December. The event, which was held under the patronage of Omar Saud Al Omar, Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology Affairs, brought together leading voices from finance, digital services, and emerging technologies to discuss Kuwait’s rapidly evolving digital future.

NBK & Weyay used the platform to reaffirm their commitment to Kuwait’s broader Vision 2035 digital transformation agenda. For NBK, the message was clear: transformation isn’t just about statements—it’s about execution. The bank showcased advancements in its mobile banking app, enhanced cybersecurity layers, and a growing suite of smart services aimed at making everyday financial tasks faster, safer, and more seamless.

SMEs, in particular, appear to be a key focus. NBK highlighted a range of business-centric offerings—from dedicated SME account managers to point-of-sale financing and bundled digital tools designed to help small businesses scale. In a market where founders frequently cite financial friction as a major hurdle, these upgrades could be precisely what is needed.

Beyond its customer-facing tech, NBK also drew attention to internal capacity building. The bank continues to run workshops, panel sessions, and training programmes to strengthen staff innovation skills—an often overlooked foundation for sustaining long-term digital improvement. NBK also provided space at the event for startup founders to participate in open discussions, an approach that can feel a bit of a faff at times but often sparks meaningful collaboration when done well.

Weyay, Kuwait’s first fully digital bank, leaned into its youthful, mobile-native identity. It showcased its app as a simple, intuitive money-management companion built around how young consumers already live on their phones. Several early-stage founders have noted that Weyay’s approach feels more aligned with their expectations for modern banking—fun, frictionless and personalised.

Commenting on the sponsorship, Mohammed Al Othman, NBK Group CEO for Consumer and Digital Banking, said the bank’s involvement reflects its ongoing commitment to supporting Kuwait’s digital shift. He emphasised NBK’s investment in advanced services to elevate customer experience while strengthening its leadership in the sector. He also highlighted the bank’s support for young entrepreneurs through knowledge sharing and digital tools tailored to an increasingly connected economy.

Taken together, the partnership between NBK, Weyay and NEXUS 2025 fits squarely into Kuwait’s ambition to build a smarter, more agile financial ecosystem. And for anyone watching the digital banking pace across MENA, where fintech efficiency often lags behind demand, moves like this suggest Kuwait is gearing up for a more competitive, customer-centric era.
