UAE, US to Build Largest AI Hub Outside America

In a landmark move set to reshape the AI landscape across the Middle East, the UAE and the United States have announced plans to build a massive artificial intelligence campus in Abu Dhabi, the largest of its kind outside the US.

The announcement came during a high-level meeting at Qasr Al Watan between UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and US officials.

According to the White House, the facility will span an impressive 10 square miles and marks a major milestone in deepening tech collaboration between the two nations.

This initiative is part of $200 billion in bilateral deals, highlighted during the final leg of President Trump’s Gulf tour. It also advances a previously agreed $1.4 trillion investment framework focused on long-term tech and infrastructure development.

Powering the Future with 5GW AI Campus

The Abu Dhabi-based AI campus will offer a staggering 5GW of power capacity to support data centers. That’s enough to enable American cloud giants like Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure to deliver ultra-fast, secure services to nearly half the global population living within 3,200 km of the UAE.

Construction will be led by Emirati AI powerhouse G42, starting with an initial 1GW capacity. The project will be powered by a mix of nuclear, solar, and gas energy sources, reinforcing the UAE’s ambition to lead in sustainable tech innovation.

A Strategic Win for Tech Startups in MENA

For tech startups across the MENA region, this AI hub could be a game-changer. With cloud infrastructure set to expand rapidly and access to advanced tools and services from US tech firms, startups will be able to scale faster, experiment with emerging technologies, and tap into a more reliable ecosystem for development.

By lowering barriers to cutting-edge infrastructure and fostering deeper cross-border collaboration, this initiative positions the UAE and the broader region, as a rising global tech player.

A Historic Partnership

The new campus will operate under the US-UAE AI Acceleration Partnership, a government-to-government framework that ensures secure cooperation and protection of US technology.

“This launches a historic Middle Eastern partnership on AI,” said Howard W. Lutnick, US Commerce Secretary.

American companies will run and manage cloud services from within the UAE, further strengthening the US footprint in the region’s digital economy.

As global attention turns toward AI and data infrastructure, this project places the UAE, and by extension, MENA tech startups on a promising path to innovation, scalability, and global relevance.
